Eco-mUNITY believes that the best way to communicate is in person. This personal interaction builds communities, and is designed to help citizens better know and connect with their neighborhood. Through the eCo-Fi Yourself Show, Eco-mUNITY helps each neighborhood to build its own mesh network and interact virtually, like a neighborhood-scaled Craig’s List. Most of the interactions are geared toward meeting and cooperating in some way, whether through a transaction or campaign or project collaboration. People can moderate and somewhat filter their interaction with their neighborhood to help maintain the integrity of their shared virtual community space as well as flow of their day if they need to delay response to a communication from someone that just happened to come at the wrong time. The application of the network is directed toward community moderated local bulletin boards, calendars, event planning, community collaboration, and skill sharing.
Being able to filter interactions through Eco-mUNITY provides enough control and security for most people. It is also helpful to know that Eco-mUNITY will not share your information with any third parties without your consent. Eco-mUNITY values transparency of its own information and processes and works to empower communities to protect themselves. Eco-mUNITY operates paper free as well. To limit direct mail and email offers from other companies and entities, contact the Direct Marketing Association Preference Services at www.dmaconsumers.org/consumerassistance.html. The DMA charges $1 for this service.
To remove your name from pre-approved credit lists maintained by the three major credit bureaus and limit the number of credit solicitations that you receive, you can either fill the pre-paid envelope that is often enclosed with as many heavy things you wish to get rid of so that the business is required to pay for your heavy garbage to be mailed to them or you can contact the National Opt-Out Center at (888)567-8688 or www.optoutprescreen.com.
The Federal Government also has a national registry that allows consumers to stop receiving most telemarketing sales calls. You can call (888)382-1222 from the number you wish to remove or you can visit www.donotcall.gov.
The National Do Not Call Registry does not apply to charities, political organizations, telephone surveyors, or existing business relationships. If you wish to stop being visited by Eco-mUNITY, please request it from us by contacting us through our webform or calling (206)203-2688.
